Beaches
Being in the heart of the North Cornwall coastline, Boscastle and its surrounding area is home to some of the country’s most beautiful and varied beaches. We have quiet, lonely beaches, albeit because they can be a bit of a walk and a scramble to get to, we have dramatic rocky beaches, long sandy beaches, beaches that are fantastic for surfing, beaches with tidal swimming pools, beaches with a pub or café, romantic beaches to watch the sun go down, beaches steeped in mythology, beaches that are a favourite for seals. Somewhere there is your favourite beach.
Below are listed the beaches within 20 miles of 5 Valency Row.
Boscastle Harbour
Walking distance from 5 Valency Row. Dog friendly.
If you want a very nearby swim and then scamper back to get changed in the comfort of your own place and warm yourself next to a burning log stove, then stay at 5 Valency Row. As a child I spent long Summer days jumping off the outer harbour wall into the sea, cut off by the high tide.
There is rescue equipment located above the harbour. Swimming outside of the harbour, especially when the tide is going out is dangerous. There are a few rock pools and snorkelling is possible in calm conditions but it is not suitable for surfing.
The beaches are shown on the map below and those with no restrictions for dogs are marked with a paw. Most of those with restrictions have bans on dogs between mid-May and the end of September between 10am and 6pm although at Widemouth that only applies to the northern section of the beach, the southern section, called Black Rock, has no restrictions. On Summerleaze Beach in Bude, dogs are allowed all year round but have to be kept on a lead between mid-May and the end of September from 10am to 6pm.
